Did yall know that 95% of the clothes I wear is recycled or upcycled. And that’s why I absolutely love @suaysewshop . They are committed to creating a culture of community and reuse. At a time when our planet is on fire and garment workers are being exploited around the world, we have to be more mindful and intentional about where we get our clothes. Fast fashion is out, up cycled fashion is in. One of my favorite things about being in LA is being able to be a part of the @suaysewshop . Each time I pop in run into folks I know or admire, like @veggiemijas ! Check them out. Today I brought some old towels and sheets to tye dye and I left with an upcycled shirt!

I’m back from the DNC. My thoughts on VP Kamala Harris’s speech. We all have to mobilize to get out the vote and build local power by electing people who are aligned with our values. And we have to participate in social movements so that we can influence the platforms of our elected officials. Cultural change, proceeds political change.

End the Aid! Palestinian voices and those who support them are being censored and ignored. Not just at the DNC, also at universities as classes return to session. UC campuses’ just announced a new “zero tolerance” order that bans encampments, masking, and blocking paths which raises major concerns for student activism and free speech. It’s crucial to stand with students as they navigate these restrictive measures. We cannot stay silent about how Americans are paying for and providing the bombs to kill over 40,000 Palestinians—over half of them children and the elderly. Proceeds from this poster will benefit students in the UC system who continue to pressure the UC system to divest from funding arms and weapons manufacturers. I’m working with faculty who are supporting students.

LET PALESTINIANS SPEAK! NOW! From @uncommittedmvmt Tonight, the DNC made clear that it values Palestinian lives and voices less than others. It is unconscionable to silence Palestinian voices as they face US-funded massacre, starvation, and ethnic cleansing. If the Democratic Party is committed to securing the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza, including Hersh Goldberg-Polin, whose parents addressed the DNC movingly earlier this evening, they must do everything they can to achieve a ceasefire. To secure a ceasefire, the Biden-Harris administration must stop sending the bombs the Israeli military is using to prolong the bloodshed. The absolute least the Democratic Party could do is to recognize the dignity and humanity of Palestinians and give a spot on the DNC stage to a Palestinian American speaker. We are with the ceasefire delegates who are sitting-in until their demands are met.

In Chicago amidst the DNC event, my “No Genocide” art pieces hangs at the @intoactionus exhibit. Art is a powerful way to speak truth to power and to connect to our heart space. I’m proud of the artists and creative who are using their platforms to dead that our electeds call for a permanent ceasefire and an end to military aid. You can download these posters in black-and-white and use them to wheat paste! You can use them for coloring activities too! This piece is my 2nd collaboration with @incite_paliforce @palestinianfeministcollective , and this piece connects militarism, genocide, and gender violence in Palestine.

The election is just 12 weeks away! Not only do we have to defeat the extremist right, we also must vote for people, especially in local elections, who truly represent our values. And we must continue shifting the narrative and pressuring candidates to support and enact a permanent cease fire. This election is not just about the presidency, it’s about taking back local power and voting for progressive candidates. Yesterday I was on a panel with two State Senators from Tennessee who are fiercely fighting for abortion in a state where the right has taken over the state legislature. I’m inspired by my comrades organizing in the streets and within the DNC, I support the inside game and outside game. The conversation is shifting and this is largely due to movement groups demanding that we divest from militarism and fund our communities. Now it’s time for action, not promises. It feels wonderful to be celebrated for my art, my activism, my commitment to liberation, and for helping build cultural infrastructure through @culturestrike , the organization I founded in 2011. This weekend I was swimming in an ocean of powerful Latinas, who are working towards gender, racial and environmental justice. I LOVE US! I love our immigrant stories, how we are working towards decolonial futures, how we are helping to heal the wounds of our past, and how we are unapologetic in using our voices. Raizado Festival is a gathering where Latine change makers, artists, storytellers, are gathering to connect, build relationships and organize for cultural, political and economic power!

Art about our deep connection to nature. These works are available now. This first print celebrates the Big Horn Sheep, a species that was re-introduced by the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe after nearly 100 years! In 2020, the Paiutes reintroduced a flock of bighorn sheep on their tribal land that was once a part of the sheep’s historic habitat. The next piece is about Hetch Hetchy. Before becoming a reservoir in 1923, the Hetch Hetchy Valley, known to the Paiute as Iyaydzi, was a stunning wilderness full of oak trees, grass, and deer. Its transformation sparked controversy and activism, leading to an environmental movement to protect exceptional natural spaces.

These twin Palestinian babies are Asser and Ayssel. They were four days old when they were killed by US funded Israeli bombs alongside their mother and grandmother. Instead of their father going to fetch their birth certificates, they got death certificates instead. How many more babies? How many more fathers and mothers, grandmas and grandpas? How much more of this can a people take? This Administration has shown us over and over again - they have no red line. Doesn’t matter how many dead bodies, how many children parts carried in plastic bags by their families. If anyone still wants me to believe that the USA, who is bankrolling this genocide doesn’t have the power to stop it- you are delusional. One ☝🏼 threat of ending military funding to Israel would stop this immediately. The only solace I have for this father is his daughters will be there waiting for him at the gates of heaven.
