Our planet is burning and it's going to take ALL of our collective power to stop the climate crisis. We cannot solve the climate crisis without racial justice. Why? Because BIPOC communities are the ones who are sacrificed by the oil industry and by big agriculture. We are poisoned, sickened, and even murdered by these industries. The lands of Indigenous people are stolen, Black and Brown people are forced to live in polluted and dirty areas. Therefore, solutions for the climate crisis must center those who are most impacted. At Climate Week, we brought the message that CLIMATE JUSTICE IS RACIAL JUSTICE to New York!✊🏾🌎 Yesterday we took the streets in partnership with @ifnotusthenwho @thehoopbus @hiphopcaucus @friends_earth @nationalwildlife @culturestrike @globalalliancet @rainforestactionnetwork and more. Rollin through Manhattan’s iconic spots, we engaged folks, amplifying the message of Climate and Racial Justice together with NY’s local Hoop stars 🏀. We delivered a petition to the NY Governor, signed by over 600,000 people, demanding that she sign a bill to stop funding deforestation! Climate crisis knows no borders. Our public dollars cannot be funding the devastation of the forests and Indigenous lands. We must stand in solidarity with earth protectors around our planet to protect our ONLY home!

We Are Nature Defending Ourselves! Reporting from Climate Week NYC! Today the @culturestrike team hosted an event unveiling a new mural commission by @sonja__jay . We’re disrupting traditional climate change narratives through art. Communities of color around the world are rising up to demand real solutions to preserve and protect our land, water, and resources. I am so hyped to be connecting with so many amazing femmes of color, leaders in climate. And also thrilled to be connecting with my team. @culturestrike is a woman-of-color-led organization that I co-founded, that is spread out across the country. We are here to stand up for mother earth and to demand that we transition away from fossil fuels now! #CultureIsPower #ClimateWoke #artisaclimatesolution

I’m headed to Climate Week NYC to rise up for our future, for our Mother Earth, for all of her creatures and for the future of humanity. Our world is burning. We must use all we have to shut down the fossil fuel and animal agricultural industries that are destroying our Earth, all for greed! Our beautiful home is being exploited and we are all suffering. Around the world, the people who contribute the least to the problem are suffering the worst consequences. It’s time to ACT! I will posting a lot here and in my stories. Share and amplify. Let’s call out the big banks and oil companies that are devastating our planet. Get involved, have conversations. We can’t just act like it’s not happening. The crisis is here. I will be rolling with my crews @culturestrike @amazonwatch @ifnotusthenwho @rainforestactionnetwork @blackindigenousliberation . Time to Rise!!

This year I’ve had the pleasure of doing a number of large scale projects. I’m in love with this new commission I am doing for @policylink and @thelmaharrisgallery . This opportunity has been very meaningful to me because I get the opportunity to explore color and texture, and I get the chance to fabricate my pieces so that they literally are popping off the wall! I am truly loving these colors and textures! Thank you so much to my fantastic art director who is helping me manifest these ideas @nemprints . Also thank you to the folks who are supporting me with the structural aspects of this piece @mantistic josed_vergara @oreeoriginol

My poster in the New York Times! RP @nytimes Tens of thousands of people, young and old, filled the streets of Midtown Manhattan on Sunday to demand that world leaders quickly pivot away from fossil fuels that are dangerously heating the planet. The participants’ ire was sharply directed at President Biden, who is expected to arrive in New York on Sunday night to attend several fund-raisers this week and to speak before the United Nations General Assembly session that begins on Tuesday. The climate protest in New York follows a weekend of similar demonstrations in Germany, England, Senegal, South Korea, India and elsewhere. They are the largest such protests since before the Covid-19 pandemic, and they come on the heels of the hottest summer on record, exacerbated by planetary warming, and amid record profits for oil and gas companies. #endfossilfuels

My whirlwind of travel has come to an end. I left Brazil 3 days ago, with stops in NYC and Atlanta. My last hours in Brasilia I spent connecting with Indigenous women who were gathering in the capital for a historic march to defend land and life. My delegation with @amazonwatch had just arrived in Brasilia from the Amazon rainforest, and we connected with Kaiapo women who painted our bodies. In New York I stopped at @booklynart to visit my friend @marshall to talk radical art. It was hard to return from the middle of the rainforest to the cement jungle that is Brooklyn, but seeing art always lifts my spirits and reminds me of my purpose. The next morning I had a powerful talk with funders about the role of art and culture in racial and climate justice. My work as an artist and activist requires me to constantly switch into different spaces. Although it can be challenging, there are things that I do to make it easier for myself - like drinking a lot of water, meditating, refraining from alcohol and coffee, and exercising in whatever way I can. Then I was off to Atlanta to give opening remarks at the FIRST national gathering of BIPOC documentary film leaders in the United States, organized by @colorcongress ! What a gift to be able to talk about cultural power, to do so from a place of being an artist and an institution builder. Today I spoke about the folks who mentored me, how they shaped me to use my voice and my imagination. Throughout my journeys, I have felt loved by my fellow creatives and by the Black, Indigenous and Brown women who are leading movements on this hemisphere - we all understand the urgency of our work, how our culture and our stories can move people towards a different worldview - away from domination and oppression, towards partnership and collective power. Soon I will post lessons that I carry with me from the sacred Amazon forest. Thank you for accompanying me on this journey and those of you who donated to my Amazon trip.

The 3rd march of Indigenous Women organized by @anmigaorg happened today in Brasilia! I was there a few days ago upon my return from the Amazon rainforest. I saw the first day of this gathering when women were arriving in buses from all over Brazil and other parts of the world. These courageous earth protectors were occupying the Brazilian capital with their songs, paintings, rituals and ancestral healing. The theme of the march was “Ecosystem Women in Defense of Biodiversity Through Ancestral Roots.” They march for the countless Indigenous women who have been silenced and marginalized throughout history. Join @amazonwatch in demanding the prioritization and protection of women in the movement for climate justice! Sign the petition in my bio to show solidarity with the Indigenous Women Defenders of the Amazon! I am so proud to have joined the board of directors at Amazon Watch, which is why I was recently in the Amazon - to be in solidarity with Indigenous earth protectors. New Art! I've been deeply engrossed in a series of projects that honor the diverse ecosystems thriving in the Bay Area. This region boasts a rich tapestry of nature, from the majestic Redwoods on California's foggy coast to the wetlands of the South Bay, where amazing restoration efforts were breathing new life into the land. As I delved into these projects, I was moved by the resilience of our local ecosystems, as well as the sobering consequences of past land exploitation and colonization that still impact these habitats. My creative journey unveiled the work of healing and rejuvenating our natural surroundings, and I felt so proud to be a Californian. Here are some of the works I created to honor my hometown. 1. Sunkissed Serenity I
2. Sunkissed Serenity II
3. Sunkissed Serenity III
4. Bay Area Tidal Symphony These are all one of a kind works! Follow the links or visit my link in bio to learn more.

I’m so moved by experiencing the sacred Amazon forest. For four days I was on a delegation with @amazonwatch to witness the Amazonia in the Tapajos River in Brazil. One third of the Earth’s plant and animal species live in the Amazon!! It’s in these lands that Indigenous communities have stood up to destruction. One of these leaders is @alessandra_korap (see slide 4) a Munduruku leader who recently won a prize for leading the fight against massive corporations that want to build all kinds of awful things in the Amazon, like dams and hydro villas. One of my favorite moments was visiting a Munduruku village and listening to the girls sing songs about being warriors for the earth. It was so inspiring to see how the Munduruku children are informed about what’s happening to their land. The destruction and attacks on Indigenous communities are so rampant here, that all ages are aware about the resistance. Because their way of life is threatened and they are in such a deep relationship with the rainforest. The Amazon rainforest is in crisis. Agribusiness, fossil fuel companies and mining companies have been destroying this forest for a very long time, and the region has hit a tipping point. It’s so important that Brazil’s president, Lula, is supporting land back projects, because the last president, Bolsonaro, accelerated the destruction of the rainforest and violation of Indigenous rights in just a few years. Just like Trump, the environmental devastation under his rule was hell for Indigenous people. Check out my journey in my stories, follow the folks I post about, support Land back (in Brazil it’s called Demarcacion) and get involved in protecting Earth by standing with Indigenous land protectors. We all have to care about the most biodiverse rainforest in the world! A special thank you to @in_samauma for curating our trip!

My journey in the sacred forest continues. I am in the Amazon rainforest with a delegation of changemakers and climate leaders traveling with @amazonwatch . I’m here to connect with Indigenous earth protectors in the Tapayos River region who are defending this forest. I am here to witness and feel in my body the power of the most biodiverse region on Earth! Follow my journey in my IG stories and learn about the forest that is home to one-third of the Earth’s plant and animal species! The Amazon rainforest is in crisis. Agribusiness, fossil fuel companies and mining companies have been destroying this forest for years, and the region has hit a tipping point. It’s Indigenous people who are putting their lives on the line to protect this forest. This forest is key to the health of our entire planet. The Amazon rainforest is bigger than the continental US. It produces one-fifth of all Earth’s flowing fresh water. Check out my journey, follow the folks I post about, support Land back (in Brazil it’s called Demarcacion) and get involved in protecting Earth by standing with Indigenous land protectors. It starts with informing yourself and connecting the dots. #amazonrainforest #síalyasuní #protectamazonia

I made it to the Amazon rainforest to participate in a delegation of climate leaders with @amazonwatch ! I’m here to connect with land and water protectors in the Tapajós River region who are standing up to extractive industries, including fossil fuels and agribusiness. I will be reporting about my solidarity trip in my IG stories. Follow my journey and learn about Indigenous resistance to climate crisis and neo-colonization. The Amazon rainforest is the world’s largest and most biodiverse tropical rainforest, covering an area larger than the continental US. It houses one-third of the Earth’s plant and animal species and produces one-fifth of all its flowing fresh water. The Amazon rainforest is in crisis. And it’s critical that we build solidarity with Indigenous protectors because they are the ones protecting the world’s biodiversity. My home state of California is the largest buyer of Amazon crude oil, therefore, we have to connect the dots around the devastation being caused by fossil fuels. The Amazon rainforest faces deforestation because of animal agriculture too. This means that ancient forests are cleared to make way for cattle, or to grow soybeans to feed cows and pigs. The region that I’m visiting is the Tapajós River. One-third of our world’s soy along with other agriculture commodities is produced in the Tapajos River basin. And these industries are destroying this region. But Indigenous communities have been fighting back and are winning. Follow my journey and learn about Indigenous resistance to climate crisis and neo-colonization. Get inspired to protect nature. Follow @amazonwatch too! Slide Info:

There is still many folks and dear friends stranded on Playa and they need our love and support, especially as they will start with break down. Many folks left, but the people who remain will be responsible for the take down of camps and clean up. It’s a huge task to clean up the Playa in normal conditions, and this time the clean up will be extremely challenging. If anyone can rise to the occasion it’s Burners. Let’s send these folks love. I’ve been seeing Burners activate mutual supports networks, care for folks who need it, and mobilize in times of crisis. Thank you to my fellow Burners who truly embody the 10 principles and who will remain to clean up the Playa. Yes there are things that need to shift as I shared in m my video, and folks are still in the midst of it. I want to make sure to acknowledge that. Wishing folks a smooth clean up and safe exodus. New Art Works! Collages on Wood Panels. I’m loving this fresh new series that delves into how I compose intricate works through the assembly of shapes and textures. Each season, I create a collection of hand-carved colors and textures, meticulously designing them to reflect the thematic undertones of my work. Lately, my creative projects have revolved around the majestic redwood trees and the intricate ecosystems of the Bay Area, my home. Among these artworks, remnants from past artistic projects that I am reluctant to discard find renewed purpose. I breathe new life into each of my shapes, harmonizing their essence to create vibrant, lively compositions. The textures reflect the ocean's caress, root-like tendrils, and my signature motifs, melding into vibrant, playful, and bold expressions. There are only 10 of these available. These wood panels are ready to hang, they require no framing. Visit my link in bio!
