My work year is over and I’m transitioning into OFF mode. I am feeling really pleased and overjoyed at all the wonderful things I helped create this year, from my art to my relationships. I am feeling good about how I’m showing up for myself and for others, and for our mother earth and for all that is alive.

I’m also exhausted, recognizing that I still have more to learn about managing my energy and being more aware of my capacity. I’m going to take some time to rest, sleep, care deeply for myself and dream. Thank you to all who bought art from my studio and who supported my work in all the ways!

The land does not belong to us, we belong to the land! This Earth Month, and it’s a good time to remind you that militarism is ecocide. Bombs destroy people and planet. In order for us to solve the climate crisis, we must work to liberate the land for ALL people. When we say “free the land”, we mean free it ALL. Liberate the gardens! Liberate the forests! Liberate the cities! Liberating the Land also means that we don’t destroy, bomb, or violate the land. Land is sacred. This art celebrates Indigenous efforts to rematriate the land and return it to the stewardship of Indigenous people, such as the work led by Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, an urban Indigenous women-led nonprofit rooted in the East Bay. The phrase “Free the Land” has its roots with the New Afrikan Independence Movement which called for an independent Black nation on the North American continent. To “Free the Land” means to support Black land reparations. Shout out to my friends @MovementGeneration who have inspired my climate activism and who have taught me about movements to Free The Land! It’s past midnight, and turnout of students and faculty has filled the entire plaza of Columbia University. Students are continuing to demand that Columbia disclose and divest from all its ties to Israel. An end to US complicity in the genocide of Gaza remains students’ focus, they insist, despite media attempts to divert attention to marginal issues like student safety or free speech. In the past hour, students have begun dividing themselves into group formations to block NYPD movement into the liberation encampment zone. This remarkable show of people power from students has caused the university administration to postpone their midnight deadline to make a decision on “alternative options” to clear out the encampment to 8:00 AM. On Earth Day, I want to talk about the importance of reconnecting with Earth. Colonialism has severed our relationship to Earth and has made it so that not only do BIPOC people live in the dirtiest communities, but we also are on the front lines of the climate crisis and our bodies are often forced to exploit Earth. The exploitation of people and the exploitation of Earth is all connected. Through my art, I address this by creating work about our natural environment and by connecting the dots between the oppression of humans and the oppression of the earth and all that is alive on this planet, including animals, who are also abused, exploited, and tortured. Oceans and forests have also been pillaged - all for the consolidation of wealth and power. In my work, I attempt to heal that as someone who was impacted by pollution and by the fossil fuel industry. Our oppression is linked to the oppression of the land. This is why we must fight to free the land and protect the Indigenous people of ALL lands, because Indigenous people protect 80% of the world’s biodiversity. To be aligned with Mother Earth is to stand against colonization, militarism, and genocide. US militarism is one of the largest contributors to the climate crisis. This Earth Day, let’s honor the earth by standing against oppression in all of its forms and unite with others to smash colonialism! I had a wonderful time teaching a social justice art workshop to young people in Santa Rosa with @dalesoco ! I always love teaching young people how art can be a powerful tool in changing hearts and minds and in building the public will for change. These incredible youth are working on projects throughout Sonoma County about food security, homelessness, school supplies for youth immigrant rights and on demanding a ceasefire. Thank you to @nikkokimzin @dr.danieladominguez , Gricelda and the entire DALE staff! Thank you Santa Rosa for welcoming me to your community! DALE’s program seeks to strengthen student skills, bring together leaders and community organizers who are committed to educational justice in our high schools, and co-create a pipeline of youth organizers and leaders in Sonoma County. An Earth Month reminder that we are a part of nature and it’s important to slow down. This new print symbolizes the need to slow down in a culture that is always pushing us to move fast. It serves as a reminder that creating meaningful change requires a regenerative relationship to time, as well as a shift in how we create, collaborate, and navigate the unrealistic standards we set for ourselves and others because of capitalism. By slowing down, we are able to connect with our bodies, with each other, and to reject old paradigms in order to open our hearts for different ways of being. I love our planet and that’s why I fight to protect it for future generations. This was captured on camera for the first time. Penguin chicks usually jump from 1-2 feet cliffs but climate crisis has changed that. This artwork honors our deep connection with the Coho Salmon, a symbol of California’s ecological heritage. Chief Caleen Sisk of the Winnemem Wintu Tribe reminds us that the fate of the salmon reflects our own, emphasizing the intertwined relationship between humans and nature. Once abundant in the waterways of central and northern California, Coho Salmon populations plummeted in the 20th century, particularly in the Bay Area. Despite this decline, there is hope. Thanks to the dedication of Native communities and conservationists, endangered salmon are now making a remarkable comeback in Bay Area streams. Greetings from Oxford, England! I’m having a really amazing time at the School World Forum @skollworldforum . My heart is full! I am reconnecting with old friends, meeting so many new leaders and change makers from around the globe who are working to transform the world to a place where more justice, freedom and sustainability exist. I love England, I am hoping I can spend more time here in the future and make some art! Oh and @liladowns made my heart explode today!! NEW ART! I recently got to spend an extended amount of time in the beautiful Sonoran desert. I fell in love with the region we call Tucson today. Since 2011, I have been traveling to the borderlands in Arizona to join pro-immigrant movements and to stand against the devastating wall. The border wall has been an awful barrier that was erected in 1994, and it has only gotten deadlier for humans and animals alike. Those who fund and support the devastating border wall will lead us to believe that the desert is a dead region, but nothing could be farther from the truth. The desert is a vibrant ecosystem. There are many plants and animals that are harshly impacted by the border wall. Therefore, when I’m in Tucson, I look to celebrate the desert and all that is alive in it. Recently I was invited to create an art piece at the University of Arizona. I made an art installation about desert plants and creatures that are special to the region, and that are also impacted by militarization, habitat loss and climate change. One of those plants that I especially loved is the Peniocereus greggii, also known as the Saramatraca - Night Blooming Cereus. Sonoran Desert dwellers know how special it is to observe the night blooming cereus’s rare, luminous, and fragrant flowers. Legend says that the cactuses all bloom a single night of the year. In fact, they bloom in three to five night-time flushes per year, between late May and early July: cactuses near to one another all flower in synchrony. At other times of the year, the plant is less noticeable, and a large portion of it is underground in the form of a tuber. This limited edition print honors that sacred Saramatraca.
